How to choose the colour of your kitchen?

Choosing the kitchen is one of the most important and delicate moments when furnishing your home. It is therefore essential to reconcile personal tastes with practicality, emotions and functionality. So how do you choose the right kitchen colours and materials?

Whether you prefer modern kitchens or traditional kitchens, you will often find yourself having to adapt your style to several elements already present in your home.

Here are a few tips on how to combine creativity and necessity, without having to give up your dream kitchen.

The first step in guaranteeing a versatile and customised kitchen is choosing a modular version, available in an extensive range of colours, finishes and materials. Standard solutions make it extremely hard to manage space and furnish it with style.

If the floors or fixtures are already installed, you have to find the right balance between these elements and your own tastes when designing a kitchen or living room, while seeking to exploit their potential as far as possible. An old floor from the 1960s or dark iron fixtures could, for example, form the basis for a post-industrial loft-style kitchen, while the plain floor chosen by the previous owner could be ideal for a bright-coloured kitchen.

There is no mathematically correct colour combination in kitchen design. Some people prefer simple and minimalist shapes, while others prefer a warm and welcoming environment, without neglecting elegance and a contemporary feel. Kitchen design should reflect our style and tastes, but the kitchen must also be practical and functional, not just attractive. So spend enough time looking for the right kitchen design.

How to choose the kitchen worktop?

Choosing the worktop is another fundamental step in designing the perfect kitchen for your needs. The technology now used for these surfaces offers a variety of different solutions.

Firstly, you have to choose the material according to your own needs. The worktop is the surface we use the most and is therefore subject to the greatest wear and tear. A quartz worktop is certainly ideal for those who love baking and a truly resistant work surface, while those looking for a  highend product of excellent quality can choose from a new generation of surfaces likes caesarstone, neolith ceramic tops, which imitate the surfaces and feel of stone or wood, and are both practical and highly resistant over time.

Siligranite or steel could be a wise choice for the sink or cooking areas, which are subject to the greatest water stress. The rest of the composition can be combined with work top surface, perhaps with different thickness, to create charming contrasts between different materials and volumes.

Here are several tips on choosing the right work surface. We advise against combining a kitchen with highly distinctive wooden doors with a top having a different wood finish. In this case, it is better to use materials which are different to the touch, such as quartz, stone or cement. In contrast, a kitchen with smooth, white doors may be “warmed” by a wooden worktop.

Is it better to have a suspended kitchen or a kitchen with a plinth?

A suspended kitchen is elegant and has the prime advantage of facilitating cleaning under the units. It also bestows a sensation of lightness and ensures more efficient floor heating.

However, the disadvantages include less storage space and the limitation of choosing specific dishwashers with reduced load capacity.

A kitchen with a plinth is more spacious and can be easily equipped with all standard dishwashers. Unlike suspended kitchens, however, thorough cleaning is more difficult.
